A Beginner's Guide to Recycling

Recycling is an easy and important way to save the planet. Since recycling is simple, it is possible for anyone to do their part to renew the earth without much additional effort or time. Recycling is not only environmentally responsible; it also can be an easy way to earn a little extra money. Recycling pays off in more ways than one.

In an environmentally conscious world, recycling gets easier all the time. Many homes and apartment complexes have designated recycling cans that take most of the effort out of recycling. To use these cans simply place any recyclable goods inside for collection. There is no need to sort items. Commonly recycled items include: plastic bottles, aluminum cans, newspaper, cardboard boxes, and more. These items for recycling are collected and processed with no additional effort to you.

While these recycling cans make recycling very simple, some may choose to do the work on their own. Often more items can be recycled at home than using these cans. Additionally, doing the work yourself allows you to profit from your recycled goods.

To start recycling at home, set aside a few boxes or bins to use to hold your items. Since these will be acquiring recycled goods for several weeks, choose an out of the way location. As recycled items are used, place them into the bins. It is generally wise to sort recycled goods into separate bins since they need to be separated before processing. Common categories include: plastic, glass, aluminum cans, paper, and sometimes Styrofoam. The items that can be recycled depend on the facilities available near you. Always clean items before placing them in your bins. Rinse soda cans and bottles and remove caps from any bottles or glass jars. Broken glass cannot be recycled.

Generally recycling is transported to recycling center once a good amount has been acquired. Many choose to save their items for about a month. Take your items to the recycling center. Often there are small recycling stations in grocery store parking lots. Larger centers can often be found online or in the phone book. The specific policies of your center will vary.

Recycling is an easy way to help the environment. Start doing your part today by creating a recycling plan and starting to save your recyclable items.
